OUR PROJECTS

Our projects are always changing with the needs of the people

We must prioritize needs everyday but some projects are made and reached everyday while others might take weeks, months, or years.

The project that I am currently working on is called Project Leo

PROJECT LEO

LEOCADIO GUEVARA DIAZ, Leo, is a former Dominican Republic Marine and professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers farm league of Dominican Republic.  He moved to Leon to play professionally for a Central American team, but somehow that did not workout and he is extremely down about the whole situation.  The doors to his baseball career have been shut and is struggling to deal with the pain of not being able to play anymore.  He says that he feels like all he can do now is to make the best of it by coaching the boys at Candelaria and teaching them about baseball and discipline.

He really likes the boys and does a terrific job with them.  He thinks that he may tryout next spring for a pro team in Nicaragua.  He has been volunteering for 2 full months, and has not received any income since his move to Nicaragua.

The problem is that Leo's paperwork to be in Nicaragua has expired and he is currently here illegally.  He has tried to get some time added or a Visa that allows him to be here legally for 5 or 10 years, but he is not having any luck here.  If he can get back to his home country, D.R., then he can within a month have all of his paperwork fixed and return to help with the baseball team legally.

He had a plane ticket for May 30th but that is not soon enough.  If he gets caught here with old paperwork he could hurt himself coming back soon or maybe even at all legally.

I have paid to move that ticket up to this coming Monday, February 25.  He is going to be in D.R. for 6-8 weeks to get his paperwork settled and visit with his family.  He also wants to get his 2 year old daughter back to Leon with him.  Moving the plane ticket was $75, but he owes $325 for his expired paperwork.  I am also paying for that and then another $100 for when he is back in D.R. getting a 5-10 years Visa.  Where I need your help is making part or all of $500 back to help with other projects here I wanted to do before knowing about this need.

Leo does wonders for the baseball team and NewSong as a whole.  We really need him here and want it to be legal.  He is a great guy and just cannot afford this himself after getting the short end of the stick about playing professional baseball here and having no income.

Once he is here legally we will be working to get him on a monthly salary as a baseball coach and discipline teacher for the boys ages 10-14.
